The Spitfire Dawn to Dusk Challenge 2006 was an attempt to visit as many former Spitfire airfields as possible in a single day. Over a 15 hour period Steve Bridgewater and Louise Walker piloted a Piper PA-28 Cherokee the length and breadth of the British Isles to raise money and awareness for the Flying Scholarships for the Disabled charity.
Despite the best attempts of the British weather the D2D Team completed their flight on Thursday June 29, 2006. Early morning fog prevented the team from departing until 7.00am and they were also weathered in a Coventry for a few hours due to haze. However, rapid re-planning (both in the Ops Room and in the air) meant they still managed to visit 14 airfields and log nearly ten hours in the air.
Thanks to everyone who made it possible, our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and the airfields who allowed us to land for free. You are all stars!
